City governments across the world have realized the importance of sustainability to maintaining quality of life for citizens and the competitive advantages that sustainability can offer. Effective sustainability efforts are built on balancing the elements of people, planet, and profit – the triple bottom line. To achieve a balance among these elements, cities set goals and assess their progress toward those goals with defined metrics. Dr. Heintz will discuss Arcadis’ Sustainable Cities Index, with a focus on Denver, and Denver’s sustainability goals and programs.

About the speaker: Dr. Monica Heintz is a geoscientist at Arcadis, specializing in natural attenuation and stimulated biodegradation of a variety of compounds. She serves on the Denver Mayor’s Office of Sustainability Sustainability Advisory Council and chairs the subcommittee on Sustainability as a Core Business Value. Dr. Heintz is also a volunteer advocate for increased utilization of renewable electricity sources in Denver and across Colorado.
